These are the steps to gaining a licence in Queensland ...

1. Obtain your Queensland Learners Permit ...
To apply for a Queensland learners licence, attend a Qld Transport Customer Service Centre and do the following:-

• Be at least 16 years and 6 months of age.
• Complete a driver licence application.
• Provide proof of residency and 3 pieces of identification.
• Successfully complete a written road rules test.

The guide "Your keys to driving in Queensland" will provide you with the necessary information to help you pass the written test. This guide can be purchased from Queensland Transport, your local newsagency or it can be downloaded at www.transport.qld.gov.au

2. Choose a driving school with a good reputation ... RIGHTWAY DRIVING SCHOOL

Have as many lessons as required, please keep in mind you can never have too many as the higher your skill level becomes then the safer you will be on the roads.

3. Practise with parents or friends who have a full licence

You can never have too much practice. It is a legal requirement in Queensland that you have 100 hours "experience" behind the wheel recorded in your official log book, prior to sitting for your practical test. This should be seen as the minimum.

4. Book your Practical Driving Test ...

Discuss your progress with your Driver Trainer and have them make a forward booking on your behalf. You must be 17 years old to sit the practical test.

You can adjust your training as the date of your test gets closer and it can be put back if you are not progressing as expected. There is a 4-5 week waiting period for a test so plan in advance.

5. Pass your Practical Driving Test ...
Your Driver Trainer will pick you up one hour prior to your test on the day for a warm up and final briefing on what to expect during your test. The paper work will have been completed by your Trainer in advance.

You will go for the test in the Driver Trainer’s vehicle, with an inspector from Queensland Transport. Your trainer will not come in the vehicle and will wait for you at the testing centre. Once you have completed the test the Inspector will debrief you on how you performed and inform you of the result.

When you pass you will then go inside and collect your licence. In the event that you are not successful on the day we encourage you to book the next test ASAP.

6. Adhere to the conditions of your Provisional licence ... www.transport.qld.gov.au
